An Act to provide for the sale or mortgage of the Glebe of the Lord Bishop of Tasmania [Royal Assent 29 September 1865] Whereas by deed-poll dated the 3rd day of September 1844, and enrolled in the Supreme Court on 20th day of November in the same year, Her Majesty granted to the Lord Bishop of Tasmania and his successors 33 acres and 3 roods of land situate at New Town in the county of Buckingham: And whereas it is expedient to enable the said Bishop, by sale or mortgage of the said land or of part thereof, to raise a sum of money for the purpose of erecting or purchasing a suitable residence for the said Bishop and his successors: Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows: 1.

Short title This Act may be cited as the Glebe Lands Act 1865 . 2. Bishop may sell Glebe, and receive proceeds, &c. It shall be lawful for the Lord Bishop of Tasmania, with the approval of the Synod, to sell the said land or any part thereof, upon such terms and in such manner as he deems right, and to convey the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof, and to receive and give discharges for the proceeds arising from any such sale. 3. Bishop may mortgage Glebe It shall be lawful for the Lord Bishop and his successors, with the approval of the Synod, to mortgage the said land or any part thereof for such sum or sums of money as he may think fit. 4. Proceeds to be applied to erection or purchase of Bishop's residence The proceeds which may arise from the sale or mortgage of the said land or any part thereof shall be applied in or towards the erection or purchase, or partly in or towards the erection and partly in or towards the purchase, of a suitable residence for the said Lord Bishop and his successors and not otherwise.
